NYC nail varnish - bubblegum pink

i'm really starting to become quite a fan of NYC nail varnishes. they're really cheap (around £2, and superdrug usually have a 2 for £2.99 offer on too) and there are quite a lot of colours which are bright and fun :) i'm sure i've got plenty of colours just like bubblegum pink (i know i do but i feel bad saying it) but this was too cute to resist!

the wear is quite good - i got a few days out of mine - and coverage is good too. in the pictures i'm wearing two coats. i like the bottles too, similar to M.A.C, no? definitely one of my new favourite cheap treats!

purple glittery half moon manicure

the past few weeks have been very busy but despite a lack of blogging, i did manage to paint my nails! i fancied something fun and sparkly so did a half moon manicure with a glitter top coat. for my half moon manicure tutorial click here! :)

i painted the base with the latest instyle magazine freebie - a nails inc varnish called 'bluebell'. i then used L.A colors - 'fun in the sun' as the top colour, and nyc - 'lights-camera-glitter' as a top coat. hope you all like it!

galaxy nails

another night in, another attempt at some nail art! this time i used my willing friend to try out some galaxy nails...

i didn't have any particular plan with colours, i just picked out the most shimmery i could find and hoped that they worked well together! firstly, i painted two coats of models own 'emerald black' from the beetlejuice collection as a base. then i used the corner of a clean washing up sponge and sponged on some 'golden green', also from the models own beetlejuice collection.

i then sponged on a layer of 'pinky brown' (models own beetlejuice again!) in a different area of the nail. i wasn't too worried about getting it on the surrounding skin or whereabouts i sponged it on as it's meant to have a lot of depth and doesn't require any clean lines.

finally, i sponged on a thin layer of NYC 'long time lavender' as another back drop to the stars. i then used a small nail dotting tool to paint a few white stars on each nail with e.l.f cosmetics 'white'. you could do this with a kirby grip or toothpick if you don't have any nail dotting tools.

to finish it off, i painted over a layer of NYC 'lights-camera-glitter' to add to the starry effect and removed the excess nail varnish from around the nails with a nail varnish remover soaked cotton bud.

and here's the finished result! i'm really pleased with it as it came out a lot better than expected and was surprisingly quick and easy to do, even though it looks quite complex. let me know if you have a go... next time i plan to do them on my nails too!

NYC manicure - cute, pink and sparkly!

I picked up these two nail varnishes this weekend because they were cute, cheap and sparkly... probably my three favourite things in life! i've never used NYC nail varnishes before but so far i'm quite impressed.

like it's name, 'long time lavender' is actually more lavender than it has come up in the pictures and less pink. it has a frosty finish so looks really girly and soft. i felt it wasn't a particularly exciting look though, and as nails are the easiest place to experiment i decided to paint 'lights-camera-glitter' over the top.

'lights-camera-glitter' has little silver sparkles in as well as bigger lilac and blue glitter pieces so i thought it went well with 'long time lavender'. i think the outcome is really pretty and it reminds me of how i used to paint my nails when i was younger for birthday discos :)

i'm not sure about the 50% stronger nails claim, and i'd be hugely surprised if this manicure lasted 7 days, but following this experimental purchase i would definitely buy NYC nail varnish again. for only £2.49 you can't really go wrong!
